NHEC organized management training in India Htoo Sein The four representatives from National Health and Education Committee (NHEC) based in Thailand taught management skills to the pro-democracy activists that reside in India. The four NHEC representatives took a trip to Aizawl in Mizoram State where a management training was held, before returning to continue training at the Burmese Community Resource Center in New Delhi from 25th to 29th of November, 2002. Each training module composed of 30 participants and taught on five different topics. These topics included (1) Dealing with Conflict (2) Meetings and Committees (3) Communication for Camp leaders (4) Financial Management and (5) Community and the Nation State. The NHEC resource representative, Saya San, said: “the training aims to educate young activists from student groups and other organizations in areas such as education, politics and health. Our system of teaching is mainly based on a free discussion/workshop and it is a kind of adult education.” The National Health and Education Committee (NHEC), under the control of the National Coalition of the Union of Burma (NCUB), has already initiated the same training in Thailand including Mae Sot and Sankhala Puri and in the Mon and Kareni regions of Burma. According to Ko Kyaw Soe, a committee member, “while organizing our training here inside India, we face some problems in language which resulted in us using Burmese. Though we use Burmese during our training, the trainees replied to us in their mother tongue, which worries me in that we were not able to attain our target due to the scarcity of time.”
