Mizzima News has learned that the residents of villages surrounding Tonzang
town in Chin State
were forced to contribute timber and money in order for the general secretary of
Kyikha town to
build a house for himself.
The respective village heads of Kyikha town's branch started collecting
building materials and
money following orders issued by U Tin Soe, general secretary of Tonzang
Township Peace and
Development Council, stating that the assigned task be completely done before
the end of
October. Kyikha township branch is divided into 11 groups and each group was
appointed to
deliver designated lengths of timber.
Besides just collecting timber and money from every house in the subjected
villages, the residents
have had to pay all the expenses for the hire and use of a cross-cut saw. In
addition to the general
secretary's house, the new police station has also been extended, increasing the
collection of taxes
and further forcing the villagers from all the branch villages of Kyikha town to
work. As a result,
the residents of the villages have been forced into labour and placed under
great financial stress.
