"Khin Mg Win, The Fellow of Thet
Naung Soe
Press Releasewas Sentenced 7 years" November 23, 2002 Khin Mg Win, who is the fellow of Thet Naung Soe, was sentenced 7 years on 21st November by a special court at Insein prison compound. The court applied 1950 Emergency Provisions Act 5(j) as Khin Mg Win did supporting to Thet Naung Soe when later held a solo protest in front of Rangoon City Hall on 18th August this year. The spokesperson of Foreign Affairs Committee, All Burma Federation of Students Union, Min Naing said, "We had already expected this would happen. The junta always takes action against peaceful demonstrators, who worked for students' rights, education, and today's problems of the country. In deed, such action neither benefit nor improve the current situation. The only way the junta has to do to improve the current situation is to speed up the National Reconciliation process as soon as possible. They should understand very well that oppressing the people like Thet Naung Soe and Khin Mg Win cannot solve the today political and socio economical catastrophe that the country is currently facing. It will even make the whole situation to be worse. We deeply welcome the release of 115 political prisoners. But we are cognizant that the oppression is still going on. The junta immediately should stop "Detaining and Releasing Game". So, we strongly condemn the imprisonment and demand to release all political prisoners instantly and unconditionally." Thet Naung Soe was previously imprisoned 14 years on 5th November. Both are the Rangoon University students studying law major. A lawyer from NLD defended the court for Khin Mg Win. But Thet Naung Soe did not accept the lawyer. He described that there will be no free and fair jurisdiction under this regime. Foreign Affairs Committee All Burma Federation of Students Union
