2 injured by Burma shells Published on Jun 20, 2002 Shells
fired during fighting inside Burma yesterday strayed across the border and hit a
Thai Army outpost, wounding two soldiers and destroying a flagpole, a senior
Army officer said.
Lieutenant Prachaya Diwattakul and Lern Sompum, a volunteer soldier, were
wounded and taken to a hospital for treatment, said Colonel Chaowarit Siri, a
provincial commander. "As Burmese [government] troops stepped up their
attack on a Shan State Army outpost just 300 metres from the border, three
shells strayed across the border and hit three Thai Ranger units," he said.
