Incident from Mandalay released from prison November
10 (NMG) Three members of Aung San Suu Kyi’s
National League for Democracy (NLD) who were arrested by military
regime on 30th May Depeyin incident were released from Shwe-Bo prison
yesterday, NLD sources said.
Member of Mandalay division organizing committee U Aung Soe, Joint-secretary
of Mandalay Northeast Twonship U Hla Oo and youth member of Myin-Mu
township Tayza Naing were brought back home by the Military Intelligence
(MI) yesterday night.
“On 9:05 pm last night, Warrant Officer Yin Htwe of MI 20
went and brought them to Sagaing Detachment around 12 midnight.
Then Kyaw Sein Win from Mandalay MI 1 came and finally they arrived
back home 4 am this early morning. They released U Aung Soe (Organizing
Committee member), U Hla Oo (Joint-Secretary Northeast Mandalay)
and Tayza Naing (member of Upper Burma Youth Organizing Committee
from Myin-Mu township,” an unidentified NLD women wing member
said on November 10.
Regarding the health conditions of these members, she said “U
Aung Soe is getting swelling in his leg, difficult to walk with
a limp and getting slight hypertension. U Hla Oo seems to be fine
but he need to undergo medical check up because he is sometimes
abnormal and getting dizziness.”
Before they were released from the prison, all three NLD members
were warned not to exaggerate the information on Depeyin incident
and situations in the prison by authorities, she added.
U Aung Soe and Tayza Naing were arrested on the spot in the Depeyin
incident and U Hla Oo was arrested on the next day of incident while
he was hiding in the fields wounded.
Three NLD members along with several dissidents were detained for
one day in Depeyin and later they were sent to Shwe Bo prison. After
being detained for 160 days in the prison, eventually three of them
were released.
According to the reliable sources, total 31 of Suu Kyi’s
followers in Depeyin are still in prisons; 10 activists in Shwe
Bo prison, 4 including NLD vice Chairman U Tin Oo in Kalay prison
and 17 youth members in Khan-Te prison.
However after the May 30th, a number of other NLD leaders throughout
the country have put under house arrest, some organizing committee
members and MPs are still in the respective prisons.
