Burma should not lead ASEAN, survey shows

September 8 (NMG) Over 90 per cent of voters in the recent survey conducted by Yahoo Asia internet website disagreed Burma under current military regime to become the leader of 10-member ASEAN group by year 2006 though Burma is likely to be crowned as a leader of ASEAN by alternative basis.

The Yahoo’s Asia website was hit as many votes as 8889. And, among them more than 8 thousand (8021) voters cast their votes to disallow Burma under current military regime to be the leader of ASEAN in 2006.

One of the world’s leading internet website, Yahoo on its Asia page currently had already completed three surveys related to Burma’s affairs and the survey on Burma to be the leader of ASEAN or not, hit the record of the highest voters.

In a recent survey, over 72 per cent of nearly six thousand votes showed that Burma should be expelled from ASEAN unless the country’s democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi is freed.

Yahoo web page has emerged as one of the leading service-provider for the netters and it usually conduct various surveys for regional issues in Asia such as China, Hong Kong and Burma. Currently, Yahoo is collecting votes whether North Korea should possess nuclear weapons or not.
