Generals from the ruling military junta have met with leaders of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) while campaigning in the Sino-Burma border of Kachin state.

The SPDC leaders, Maj Gen. Ye Myint, Maj Gen. Thurah Swe Man, and Major San Point halted in the eastern border village of Laiza and met with KIO's central committee members while returning from the Pan Wa area in northern Kachin State.

This accounts for the second meeting between the SPDC and the KIO since Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's political tour to Kachin, a tour that was escorted to Laiza village by Gen. Kyaw Thein.

Since July, the three top ranking SPDC officials have toured Chin State and Sagaing Division, campaigning to help government servants and distributing books in schools. It is also expected that they will do the same in Kachin State.

It has been reported that the places the Generals are visiting are exactly the same as Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy (NLD) party members toured previously.
