An order has been issued for the residents of Kyiat Waine Paya Street to shift houses by September. Kyiat Waine Paya Street connects the 8th mile traffic point and Tha Mine traffic point of Maramkone in the capital Rangoon.

It is reported that the Home Ministry of Rangoon Division notified the resiodents in March 2003 that they would be undertaking Standard Housing Project to No. (2) Quarter in Maramkone Township.

Residents in the lanes of Kyiat Waine Paya Street were given the samplehouses of the Standard Housing Project. They were also given choices of turning their houses into the standard house or evacuating their land.

The project area includes residents residing in Aungtheindih Street, Set Yone Street, ThaYa Aye Street, Ye Yan Aung Street (1) & (2), Min Kyiaung Street, Kharam Suu Street, Maram Suu Street, Swe Sit Kyiaung Street, Thida Street, Aung Mingalar Street (1) & (2), Hninsi Street and Sabe Chan Street.

Residents who are willing to construct their new houses are given two (2) yrs to complete the building by the Home Ministry.

Areas that include a tarpaulin factory, a hospital for the handicapped, a social welfare hospital, a primary school and the Se Myaung Compound, which are on Paya Street from Tha Mine traffic point, are included in the project. It is also reported that each residential quarter had over 900 houses.

According to a local resident, government officials, engineering officials and municipal officials would come street by street carefully investigating the area following the announcement made by the Home Ministry. Residents who evacuated the areas were reallocated in townships like South Dagon, North Dagon, and extended areas, without any compensation, and are required to construct their new home within the allocated areas.

In 2002, following an order from the Municipal department to enlarge the streets, residents in Kyiat Waine Street were forced to move their houses back 200 meters each.
