July 23, 2003:The Burmese military
regime is seriously preparing its armed forces for war in
Shan state. The build up has been continuing since June 15th.
It is also reported that the government is collecting information
on former rebel groups that have since signed cease-fire agreements.
Military intelligence is compiling information on the leaders
of these groups, keeping records of their business, family
and other statistics.
The military is preparing to crush the cease-fire rebel groups,
according to a Burmese opposition figure.
Moreover, since the May 30 Debeyin incident, the military
has specially recruited and trained a widely spread militant
organisation called Pyihtuhsit( the peoples army), said a
source close to the military.
