June 6, 2003: US diplomats yesterday visited the site where
Burmese
pro-military thugs attacked Aung San Suu Kyi and her supporters,
said a
source from Mandalay.
Diplomats took photos and gathered some evidence.
"It did not take them much time", said a man from
Mandalay on condition
of anonymity.
AP today reported the statement of a a US Embassy official
in Rangoon
who said that two diplomats who visited the place had found
signs of
"great violence", including bloody clothing, numerous
home-made weapons
and smashed headlights and mirrors, suggesting that far more
people may
have been killed than the four reported by the Burmese military
regime.
According to the Burmese junta, only four people were killed
in clashes
between Mrs. Suu Kyi's supporters and protestors. Reportedly,
at least
70 people may have been killed in the military-backed ambush.
Authorities have arresting numerous NLD members and shut down
NLD

activists are
still missing, including NLD Vice-Chairman Tin Oo.
In Khanti prison, authorities are questioning arrested NLD
youth
members.
"They were asking 'What did you do in Aung San Suu Kyi's
political
tour? How did you get in contact with diplomats? And how will
you get to
power in this country?", said a source close the to intelligence
