Thai students support
democracy in Burma
DVB ( 15 December 2003 )
Activists in Thailand supporting democracy in Burma held
a meeting in Bangkok on 14 December to issue a statement on
the meeting on Burmese affairs to be held on 15 December.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Thai
Students Union and Thai Action Committee for Democracy in
Burma (TACDB) and an official statement is to be issued on
15 December.
A Thai spokesman of TACDB said that although the organisation
supports the meeting in terms of policy, Thailand and the
Burmese junta need to do more for the emergence of democracy
in Burma with good will.
In order to solve the political problems in Burma, the NLD
leaders including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and ethnic national
representatives needed to be included in the meeting, he added.
The meeting only include some EU and Asian countries and
TACDB does not have much hope on the meeting and it will not
be staging a protest against the meeting but send an open
letter to the Thai government, according to the spokesman.
