Thai deputy PM criticises SPDC

DVB ( 12 December 2003 )

The deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Mr. Chavalit Yongchaiyudh considered to be a close friend of the Burmese military junta the SPDC said that the regime needs to change its current attitude and talk to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi the leader of NLD.

Moreover, the SPDC needs to change its attitude on the international community or else it would be hard for the regime to survive, he warned.

The comment came before the Thai sponsored meeting on the affairs of Burma scheduled to be held at Bangkok in the coming week.

He added that Thailand has been working for the reconciliation between the military regime and the opposition groups and dialogue is the best method. He also stated that the coming meeting on Burma is the first step to democracy and peace in Burma.

The SPDC is expected to explain its ‘road map’ proposal to the attendants but critics are saying that Thailand is trying to help the SPDC make western countries and countries accept its proposal.
