UN demands SPDC to investigate 30 May
DVB ( 2 December 2003 )
UN General Assembly has passed a resolution to demand the
Burmese military junta, SPDC to release of Daw Aung San Suu
Kyi and other political prisoners and a joint investigation
of Dipeyin Incident by the SPDC and the international community.
A clear time table of the SPDC proposed "road map to
democracy" is also requested by the UN.
But the proposal to raise Burmese issues in the UN Security
Council is dropped due to the strong opposition from China
and some ASEAN countries including Thailand.
Kyaw Tint Swe, the SPDC's representative to the UN, criticized
the UN resolution as "more intrusive than the previous
resolution."
Meanwhile, Dr Thaung Htun, representative of National Coalition
Government of Union of Burma (NCGUB) is also disappointed
at the resolution.
The current situation of Burma demands stronger UN action,
said Dr. Thaung Htun.
