Released NLD leaders
to lead members despite detention of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
DVB ( 27 November 2003 )
The NLD has stated on 26 November that the military junta
of Burma, the SPDC must release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and top
NLD leaders and have discussions with them first if the junta
is to implement its road map plan properly.
The junta must first release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader
of NLD which won the 1990 General Election and it must discuss
the principles and rules of the national convention with the
NLD, according to U Soe Myint, one of the five elderly NLD
leaders who were recently released by the SPDC from house
arrest.
The NLD members are also considering to send the organisation’s
official view on Dipeyin incident to the authority.
The five; U Nyunt Wei, U Loon Tin, U Than Tun, U Hla Pe and
Soe Myint discussed current political situation in Burma at
the home of U Than Tun in Bahan, Rangoon.
U Soe Myint told DVB that they discussed a clear and unambiguous
demand for the reopening of NLD offices throughout Burma and
the release of the remaining NLD leaders including Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi, and to take action on the ‘National Convention’
and Dipeyin incident quickly and without mistakes.
He also confirmed that the released leaders will continue
to lead the NLD systematically and urged all its members and
leaders throughout Burma to work in solidarity with the leaders
to overcome difficulties.
Local NLD leaders responded to their call by declaring their
unflinching support and showing their support with actions.
