SPDC needs clear time frame for road
map says ASEAN
DVB ( 24 November 2003 )
Indonesia, the current rotating president of ASEAN demanded
the Burmese military junta, the SPDC a clear time frame for
the road map plan for national reconciliation in Burma.
The Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Mr. Hassan Wirajuda said
that the first priority is the release of Daw Aung San Suu
Kyi and the inclusion of her and NLD members to be in the
national reconciliation process.
The FM is said to be annoyed by the delay of the SPDC’s
response as it was promised by the regime during recent ASEAN
summit in Bali.
The criticism emerges while the SPDC is desperately trying
to organise a ‘National Convention’ with its sympathisers
and ethnic nationals who signed ceasefire agreements with
the regime.
But a spokesman of KIO (Kachin Independence Organisation),
one of the ceasefire groups who recently met the SPDC’s
prime Minister insisted that its delegates didn’t come
to see the minister for the road map plan but to discuss other
matters.
At the same time, another ceasefire group, NMSP (New Mon
State Party) refused to send its representatives within three
days as it is demanded by the SPDC because of the importance
of the matter, said the organisation’s spokesman.
