SPDC claims ‘regular contacts’
with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
DVB ( 24 November 2003 )
A spokesman of Burma’s military junta, the SPDC (State
peace and Development Council) claims that it is having ‘regular
contacts’ with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who is being kept
under house arrest by the regime.
The deputy Foreign Minister of SPDC, U Khin Maung Win said
that the contacts are positive but they are at a delicate
juncture.
But U Nyan Win of NLD Legal Support Group said that as far
as he knows the regime is only contacting Daw Aung San Suu
Kyi in connection with personal matters and he is not aware
of the fact that they have met her over political affairs.
Dr. Sein Win, the Prime Minister of exiled NCGUB (National
Coalition Government of the Union of Burma) said that Daw
Aung San Suu Kyi should be freely allowed to meet her supporters
and diplomats, all political prisoners should be released
as soon as possible before any solid work could be done.
The comment of SPDC’s FM is a ploy to deceive the international
community, he added.
