Veteran Politicians of Burma and National Day

While NLD party members in Burma are preparing to celebrate the 83rd National Day, Veteran Politicians of Burma are also celebrating it at the home of Thakhin Thein Pe.

300 celebrants including NLD leaders, ethnic national representatives, diplomats and reporters are to be invited, according to U Aung Myint.

The organisation is to issue an appeal to the people of Burma and goodwill messages from ethnic national groups will be read out.

The appeal will include calls for the emergence of tripartite talk for the national reconciliation, the release of political prisoners and freedom of speech, added U Aung Myint.

He insisted that no single group, be it the NLD or the military junta could achieve national reconciliation without the participation of other groups.

Ethnic national groups which signed ceasefire agreements with the regime such as the KIO (Kachin Independence Organisation) are doing their best in their own circumstance to achieve national reconciliation.
