DVB ( 18 November 2003 )
An eyewitness who was in charge of the safety of Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi when NLD supporters were attacked at Dipeyin in
upper Burma on 30 May had escaped to Thailand recently.
Ko Khin Oo, a member of NLD Central Youth held a news conference
on 17 November at a location on the Thai-Burma border.
He said that he encountered the harassments of more than
300 SPDC-sponsored thugs, members of USDA (Union Solidarity
and Development Association) accompanied by the vehicles of
police and security forces near Ye-U Township on the day of
the attack.
Ko Khin Oo also claimed that the thugs attacked NLD supporters
with sharpened bamboo sticks and stones under the floodlight
on a dark night.
U Aung Htoo, a member of Dipeyin Inquiry Commission which
was formed outside Burma said that the accounts of a new witness
would considerably help the efforts to describe a more precise
picture of the attack.
