SPDC’s road map useless without
NLD says Kofi Annan
DVB ( 12 November 2003 )
U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said that the SPDC has
not shown any indication that political parties and ethnic
groups will be allowed to participate in its ‘roadmap
plan’, nor has it set out a timeline for transition
to democracy.
Annan said in a report to the UN General Assembly that Burma's
stability and multiethnic society can best be ensured by pressing
ahead with a transition to civilian rule and the return of
democracy.
Annan also appealed again for the immediate release of Daw
Aung San Suu Kyi and "to begin a substantive dialogue
with NLD and representatives of all of Burma’s political
parties and ethnic nationalities for implementing the road
map in a meaningful way.''
Dr. San Aung of exiled NCGUB (National Coalition Government
of the Union of Burma) agreed that the SPDC’s road map
is one-sided and self-serving.
Phado Manh Sha of NCUB (National Council of the Union of
Burma) commented that the plan is designed to propagate military
dictatorship and despotism in Burma.
