Daw Aung San Suu Kyi urges SPDC to
hold political dialogues
DVB ( 7 November 2003 )
Burmese democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi urged the SPDC
to hold political dialogues before starting the ‘National
Convention’ as part of the regime’s road map plan.
She expressed her criticism on the regime during her meeting
with the UN special human rights envoy to Burma, Mr. Paulo
Sergio Pinheiro, according to a Burmese political leader who
doesn’t want to be named.
She also urged all the supporters inside and outside Burma
to intensify their push for democracy in the country. The
political ‘road map plan’ of the SPDC has been
criticised widely inside and outside Burma for lack of vision.
The regime has been ignoring all the ethnic national leaders
and elected MPs in Burma, and has been appointing its own
delegates and those from ceasefire groups to attend the ‘National
Convention’.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said that the regime’s plan could
destroy the UN approved plans for tripartite talks and national
reconciliation, according to the said leader.
Meanwhile, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been awarded ‘Free
Your Mind’ prize by MTV. She has received more than
40 international awards including Nobel Peace Prize for 1991.
