Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s inheritance
lawsuit hearing postponed yet again
DVB ( 29 October 2003 )
A court in Rangoon has again postponed the hearing of inheritance
lawsuit brought against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by her older
brother U Aung San Oo.
The hearing is postponed until 26 December 2003 and her legal
team is requesting the court to postpone the hearing every
month as long as the team is not allowed to see her, said
her legal representative, U Tun Tin.
He also added that the authority refused to grant the permission
to see her within the legal boundary as the case demands.
U Tun Tin and another lawyer, U Kyi Win recently attempted
to see Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to discuss the case with her but
they were not allowed to see her by the security staff guarding
her home.
U Kyi Win has officially lodged a letter of complaint at
the court on 27 October against the refusal and the team insisted
that the incident is a clear indication that Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi is still being kept under house arrest, and not by
mutual agreement as it is claimed by the SPDC.
NLD leaders and members who attempted to see her recently
were also barred from doing so and forced to turn away.
U Thein Nyunt, the NLD leader of Thingangyun Township, Rangoon
said that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is not allowed to go out and
participate in political activities officially and he insisted
that she is not a free human being at the moment.
