DVB ( 27 October 2003 )
The NLD members from 40 townships in Rangoon Division have
been simultaneously sending letters of demand to their respective
local election commissions for the reopening of NLD offices
which have been forced to close down since early June.
The campaign started on 22 October and members are able to
show their unity more clearly in this way and they are prepared
to send the letters until they get responses from the authorities,
said a youth member from Thingangyun Township.
Ko Mya Than Htaik, a youth organiser of the township also
urged NLD members of the NLD from other states and divisions
to follow their example and display the unity of the league
until its leaders are released.
Daw Than Than Aye, a member of Mandalay Division NLD told
DVB that local members have held a meeting on 24 October to
discuss the matter and women and youth members are preparing
to implement the plans. 'We will keep on working until we
get responses from the generals and authorities,' she said.
Daw Khin Saw Htay, vice-chairperson of Yenangyaung Township
NLD said that she would implement the decision passed down
from divisional level to the township level. 'The people are
depending on us and we will try to help them with all our
heart and zeal... They may be able to kill our bodies but
our spirit is growing even more,' she confirmed.
