Burma Communist Party welcomes Wa's
'clear' declaration
DVB ( 27 October 2003 )
In a statement issued on 24 October, the Burma Communist
Party (BCP) has welcome the declaration of UWSA (United Wa
State Army) which clearly says that it is impossible for the
organisation to attend the 'National Convention' to be organised
by the SPDC, if it is not allowed to discuss matters openly
by democratic means.
The BCP used to be the mother organisation of UWSA but the
latter split up from it in 1989 and signed ceasefire agreements
with its former eneny the military junta of Burma. According
to observers based on the Burmese borders, it is the first
time the UWSA declared its intention clearly like this.
The statement of BCP maintains that the resulting decision
from the meeting held from 13 to 15 October at Pangsang in
northeast Shan State is the right move by the UWSA and the
organisation should accept the tripartite talk proposed by
the UN in stead of the road map plan proposed by the SPDC.
As it is now the critical time for Burma politically, all
political organisations in Burma have the duty to oppose the
SPDC's 'National Convention' and accept the proposal of the
UN, added the statement.
