DVB ( 20 October, 2003 )
A NLD member, Ma Myint Myint Soe and Ko Han Win Aung, a former
political priosner from South Okkalapa Township, Rangoon have
been arrested and detained in Insein Prison.
The two were arrested on the 3rd of October on their way
to Kinmunchone Village in Khayan Township for alledgedly distributing
leaflets criticising the SPDC's road map plan.
The role of Ma Myint Myint Soe is still not clear and she
was likely to be arrested by the military intelligence (MI)
because she was with Ko Han Win Aung at the time. A NLD member
told DVB that family members of the two were not informed
and their arrests were only by discovered on the 13 October
by the wife of another politicalprisoner when she went to
see her husband.
Lawyers from NLD Central Legal Assistance are planning to
take the case of the two prisoners. U Nyan Win, a NLD lawyer
said that the regime does not usually announce the details
of the trial and the lawyers have to find out about it themselves.
He also inisted that the the contuing secret trials inside
prison are illegal and unfair.
Meanwhile, Ko Maung Maung Lay from Kyimyintaing Township,
Ko Myint Swe from Tamwe Township and Ko Ne Win are to be sentenced
to prison terms soon. They were arrested in early June for
distributing 'illegal' leaflets.
