Comments of Daw Khin Khin Win on the detention of her husband,
Ko Myo Khin, the Secretary of Yankin Township NLD.
Ko Myo Khin was arrested on the 3rd of June for demanding
the authority to immediately reopen the NLD office in Bahan
Township, Rangoon. He is currently detained and tried in the
notorious Insein Prison.
Daw Khin Khin Win
I didn’t know why Ko Myo Khin was arrested. Three military
intelligence (MI) agents and the local authority chairman
came to the house on the 3rd of June at 8.30pm and summoned
him to ‘come along with them for awhile’. After
that, I heard nothing from him. I went to ask the local MI
to find out about him. They told me that they heard nothing
from him. I then contacted the ICRC and I was told that Ko
Myo Khin is being detained at Insein Prison at Ward 1, in
a separate building. I then went to the MI but they told me
that they knew nothing. I went back to the ICRC and I received
a letter from my husband. At the time, I didn’t know
that he was tried for. I went to Insein Prison on the 4th
of August. I was not allowed to see him. I left a parcel for
him…
As far as I know, they have been sending him to the court
for the weekly trials. I am enquiring about it properly. We
know nothing about it at home. He is being tried at a court
in Insein and judges from Yankin are overseeing his trial.
I heard that he was tried at the court in Insein Prison on
the 22nd of August and again on the 29th. I found out that
the news was true because the local authorities were also
cross examined at the trials…I am still trying to see
him to this day. I don’t know when he will appear at
the court again. I went to the prison on the 1st of September
but they didn’t allow me to see him…
We are very worried for him because he is not allowed to
meet his family. We want to know what he is charged with.
His parents and family members are worried about him. He even
didn’t know that his father had passed away. He was
arrested on the third of June and his father died on the 11th
of the same month in Mandalay. I told the authority to tell
him the news. I don’t know whether he did that or not.
