Responses to the SPDC’s “democracy
road map” : NCUB and DPNS
DVB ( September 1, 2003 )
The NCUB (National Council of the Union of Burma), the ABSDF
(All Burma Students’ Democratic Front), DPNS (Democratic
Party for New Society) and NDD (Network for Democracy and
Development) have jointly issued a statement on 31 August
in response to the SPDC’s new Prime Minister, General
Khin Nyunt’s “democracy road map”.
The statement says that General Khin Nyunt’s ‘democracy
road map’ with seven points has ignored the multi-racial
Burma’s democracy and national needs. It is an effort
to prolong the life of the military rule. In addition, the
SPDC’s action is a visionless effort for the country.
According to the statement, the effort to reconvene the National
Convention is an act of ignoring and defying the UN resolutions
on Burma and the international demand for democracy and national
reconciliation.
The secretary of the NCUB, Phado Mahn Shar said that the
SPDC’s ‘democracy road map’ plan is a directionless
map and the NCUB will keep on fighting to overthrow the plan
with the help of the increasing international pressure and
the people of Burma.
He also pointed out that there has been no mention of how
and when the regime will release all political prisoners,
how they are going to work for the ethnic nationals and how
they are going solve the economical problems.
Ko Zaw Naing Oo, the general secretary of DPNS said that
the action of the SPDC is an act of challenge and he vows
to fight on for the downfall of the military junta.
