Responses to the SPDC’s “democracy

It is their part to reconvene the National Convention. Now
they (Burmese generals) say that they are going to draft the
constitution. We are the representatives elected by the people.
We are here with the mandate from the people. We are not here
with our own desire. It is our duty to fulfil the desire of
the people by drafting the constitution.
I heard that they are going to re-run the election. We had
been already elected in 1990 under their rules and supervisions.
We didn’t hold the election ourselves and about 80%
voted for us. It is clear that we have the full support of
the people. We all agreed to that. We issued statements and
broadcast them on radio for the whole country to know.
If they are going to not accept the result, they are breaking
the rules they themselves set up. To annul the result of the
1990 election would be to defy the desire of the people and
insult them. If we accept the insult to the people, we will
be insulting them too. We have no reason to do it.
