Responses to the SPDC’s “democracy
road map” : General Saw Bo Mya of the KNU
DVB ( September 1, 2003 )
They (Burmese generals) will never accept other people’s
advice because what they are doing is not just. There would
be no change. There would be no handover of power. They will
try to hang on to power. The whole world knows that this military
regime is bad and the whole of Burma knows it. People are
suffering and facing many difficulties because of this military
junta. People are not able to go about their business freely
inside Burma.
Therefore, people are coming to Thailand surviving as illegal
workers. The previous regime, the BSPP (Burma Socialist programme
Party) and the SLORC (State Law and Order Restoration Council)
were the same.
We will carry on our armed struggles until we have our rights,
by any possible means. We have been carrying on our revolution
against the regime for more than 50 years without any foreign
support. We still survive because our cause and actions are
just. Had we received foreign support, we would have won.
When we win, we will not suppress any nationality and we will
work on for equal opportunity.
At a time like this, the people of Burma need to oppose the
military regime in unison and it is important that there is
an uprising in Burma. We need to be brave. If we keep on staying
like this, nothing will happen. They (the generals) will keep
on suppressing and ruling the people.
