Interview with Dr Myint Cho, director
of MPU
DVB ( September 1, 2003 )
The National Convention which was suspended since 1996 due
to its uselessness is an attempt to annul and destroy the
result of the 1990 election. In that convention, among 702
delegates, only 99 real representatives out of 485 were allowed
to attend. There was no way that one could represent the wish
of the people effectively.
There was no right to express, to discuss and to put forward
ideas freely in accordance with democracy. The delegates were
forced to agree with the policies prepared in advanced by
the military junta. We have been rejecting the National Convention
because the regime has been trying to foster a constitution
which guarantees the survival of military dictatorship and
it is very dangerous for the future of Burma and there is
nothing good for the people of Burma.
The MPU will continue to work on our original action of rallying
the international community through the UN resolutions for
the implementation of the result of 1990 by whatever means
we could use. As the SPDC will only try to draft the constitution
for the survival of military dictatorship in the proposed
National Convention, in whatever form to deceive people, I
want the international community and people in Burma to oppose
the regime’s trickeries and them to bravely support
of the efforts of the MPU.
