Meeting between NMSP and General Khin
Nyunt
DVB (August 25,2003)
General Khin Nyunt , the SPDC’s Secretary – 1
and the MIS Chief, and a delegation of New Mon State Party
(NMSP) met in Rangoon on 21 August.
The delegates included the chairman of the NMSP, Naing Htin,
the vice-chairman, Naing Tun Maw, Naing Yaw Sa, the joint
secretary, Naing Chan Twe and the CEC members in Rangoon.
Although the delegates wanted to discuss current political
matters with the general, General Khin Nyunt was only interested
in regional development, said a spokesman of NMSP.
“It was just a normal, regular meeting. The delegates
haven’t seen the Sec-1 since the death of our late chairman
Naing Shwe Kyin” said a spokesman of NMSP. “They
(the government) didn’t hold the meeting because of
our demand.”
Last Saturday, seven ethnic national groups who signed the
ceasefire agreements with the SPDC also met General Kyaw Win
who said the SPDC was not responsible for the Dieyin incident
because it was a ‘clash’ between the people of
pro-Aung San Suu Kyi and anti-Aung San Suu Kyi.
“General Kyaw Win explained to the delegates about
Dipeyin incident. They were not pleased with some of the points
in our statement,” said the same spokesman. “He
particularly pointed out the passage about ‘violent
deed’ but he didn’t say anything about others.”
Moreover, the delegation were able to discuss other matters
informally with military intelligence official Colonel Sann
Pwint but he told them that the case of two NMSP members who
were arrested with the charge of intending to blow up government
properties is still under investigation.
