fight against the economic sanctions
DVB ( Aug 20, 2003 )
The Central Military and Police Directorates in Rangoon have
sent directives to the local army and police commands throughout
Burma about how Burmese could face the US economic sanction.
According to the directives, the government was ‘working
very hard’ to fend off the ‘one-sided’ US
sanctions so there would not be any loss on businesses, merchants,
workers and civil servants in Burma.
Also, the directives told people not to be cowed into the
US economic sanctions. It urged the people and civil servants
to ward off the effects of the sanctions with full patriotic
spirit.
According to other reports, committee members of police and
army rallied soldiers and policemen and their family members
every week by propaganda, talks and seminars.
The directives were sent on 17 August.
