Three arrested in Kawthaung
DVB ( Aug 14, 2003 )
Three democracy activists are arrested by local military
intelligence agents (MI) at Kawthaung, the southern tip of
Burma on 8 August.
The three were arrested in Saintphoo village which is outside
Kawthaung. On 11 August, they were handed over to the Kawthaung
police station, according to some merchants on the Thai-Burma
border.
The exact charge of them is unknown. But the police may charge
the arrested of aiding to incite instability inside Burma.
It is also unclear whether the three arrested are local youth
or Burmese activists entering from Thailand.
After the Dipeyin incident on 30 May, there have been more
than 10 arrests by the Burmese authority along the trading
route at Kawthaung.
