MI steps up security measures
DVB ( August 11,2003)
The SPDC’s military intelligence (MI) agents steadily
have been watching the movements of the people of Burma in
recent days and in some towns, homes have been raided and
searched.
At Pegu, the local police and MI forces are searching homes
with the excuse of finding papers and reports relating Dipeyin
incident. They are particularly concentrating on the houses
of NLD members.
Some members and youth went into hiding for fear of being
arrested. The security and intelligence forces have been searching
homes in Pegu and nearby Okkan since yesterday but they are
still to find the papers relating to Dipeyin incident.
Last month, the SPDC arrested four people in Pegu in connection
with bomb blasts throughout the country. The authorities are
seriously worried that people might stage some protests on
the 15th anniversary of the 8888 uprising tomorrow and searching
their homes, according to local people.
Similarly, the NLD members in Bassein, Irrawaddy Division
have been subjected to interrogations and monitoring since
the arrest of Ko Aye Win who demanded the release of Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi and other NLD leaders.
Moreover, the NLD members are being put under pressures for
writing letters to the SPDC through NLD’s MPs, Women
and Youth organisations. The NLD members dare not stay at
their own home and go into hiding to evade the arrests, said
a NLD member in Bassein.
