Reactions of SPDC’s Saturday’s
new conference
DVB ( July 28,2003 )
Burmese activist organisations based on the Thai-Burma border
including the National Council of the Union of Burma (NCUB),
Democratic Party for New Society (DPNS), All Burma Students’
Democratic Front (ABSDF), Federation of Trade Union of Burma
(FTUB) have issued statements today in response to the accusations
of the SPDC that the NLD is connected to ‘terrorist
organisations’ in a news conference on Saturday.
DVB’s Khaing Thazin reports:
Khaing Thazin : The news conference of the SPDC is the first
step to dismantle the NLD, argues the NCUB in its statement.
U Aung Moe Zaw, the general secretary of NCUB commented about
it as follows:
U Aung Moe Zaw : The main purpose of the news conference
is to discredit the NLD and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by trying
to connect them with terrorist organisations. The generals
are further preparing to limit and oppress the NLD and the
people of Burma. As the preparation for this they have given
a made-up news conference like this.
Khaing Thazin : The joint statement issued by the ABSDF and
the DPNS points out that the accusations of the SPDC on the
opposition group are groundless. Ko Kyaw Ko, the general secretary
of the ABSDF said that the SPDC itself has set up the scenario
and planted all the evidences to accuse the NLD:
Ko Kyaw Ko : As far as I understand no civilian in Burma
likes the military rule. It is becoming clear now that the
military circles don’t like it either. People could
demonstrate and express their discontent by peaceful means
but I don’t think that they will detonate bombs and
the like. They are trying to put ammunition and labels to
the rebellion of the people and make up a scenario like this.
