Interview with
Daw May Hnin Kyi’s daughter
DVB (2003 July 11)
Daw May Hnin Kyi’s daughter told the DVB how her mother
was arrested as follows:
Daw May Hnin Kyi’s daughter : They came to our house
at eight o’clock last night. They told her to ‘follow
them momentarily for questioning’. That’s how
they came to ‘fetch’ her. The MI agents who visited
her regularly were among them. There were also two female
police officers. They have never told us where they detained
her. We learnt where she was detained only when she was released.
I think that they might be detaining her at the MI-6 office.
Daw May Hnin Kyi was also detained on the 3rd of June under
similar circumstance and released on the 11th. On this occasion,
her health is not good and her daughter said that she is very
worried about her mother. Daw May Hnin Kyi is the closest
MP to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and she is often interrogated by
the MI and put under house arrest. But her daughter said that
she is very proud of her mother:
Daw May Hnin Kyi’s daughter : We have already expected
that if we did political activities, we would be facing this
kind of situation. My mother has a strong belief and all I
have to do is support her from behind even if I am unable
to do it myself. But I don’t feel good when they take
away my mother like this. We are only worried about her health.
As for the rest, the two sides are doing their jobs. As she
is my mother, I want her to be released as soon as possible.
When it comes to this, it is not only my mother but I also
want other people to be released too.
