U Soe Win’s
health condition
DVB ( July 09,2003 )
The health condition of U Soe Win, the MP of Pegu who was
arrested by the military after the Dipeyin incident and recently
released is said to be still bad. His daughter told the DVB
about his latest situation as follows:
U Soe Win’s daughter : U Soe Win is still in the hospital.
He is still unable to eat. He has to be fed through the nose
with a pipe. He is also unable to speak properly. His tongue
is twisted. He is still being treated. He hasn’t got
any serious illness at the moment. He is unable to take food
through the mouth and he is being fed through the nose with
a pipe. Therefore, he is not discharged from the hospital
yet. I think he will be there for a couple of weeks. I think
he will only be discharged when he could eat through the mouth.
Thailand-based Assistance Association for Political Prisoners
(AAPP) issued a statement on the dire condition of U Soe Win
after he was arrested and detained by the SPDC for a couple
of weeks. The statement was issued to let the world know that
the SPDC has severely tortured a renowned people like U Soe
Win.
DVB’s Khaing Thazin reports:
Khaing Thazin : The general secretary of AAPP Ko Tate Naing
told the DVB that he wants the world to know that the SPDC
has not only severely tortured a renowned people like U Soe
Win but also tried to murder him:
Ko Tate Naing : If they tortured a renowned people like him
to point of losing his life, we are very worried that they
would do worse things to other ordinary NLD members. We want
to let the political leaders of the international community
especially those of the neighbouring Southeast Asia properly
know that the SPDC is systematically trying to destroy the
NLD and torturing and killing its members. We issued the statement
so that they could put more pressures on the regime.
Khaing Thazin :It is reported that there are 43 MPs inside
the prisons in Burma.
