Burmese activists are closely monitored
by the Thai authorities
DVB ( July 08,2003 )
It is reported that the Thai government has been instructing
the Thai local authorities to closely monitor all the Burmese
activists living in Thailand in order to maintain better relationship
with the SPDC.
More restrictions are being imposed on Burmese refugees living
in Mae Hong Son District in Northwest Thailand.
DVB’s Naw Nandar Chan reports:
Naw Nanda Chan : Many Burmese students are living in refugee
camps in Mae Hong Son District and most of them are member
of All Burma Students’ Democratic Front [ABSDF] living
in Zala refugee camp. Ko Myo Win, the general secretary of
ABSDF gave his reactions on the increasing restrictions on
Burmese activists as follows:
Ko Myo Win : I clearly want to say to the Thai government
that the problems and worries would not go away by just arresting
Burmese activists. These problems will still exist as long
as there is military dictatorship in Burma. The best way is
for the Thai government to try to help us solve the internal
Burmese political problems.
The Thai government has been instructing the local authorities
to closely monitor all anti-SPDC protests and all political
activities after the Burmese embassy ‘informed’
the Thai government that there could be an attempt by the
Burmese activists to raid the Burmese embassy and kidnap the
ambassador in Bangkok.
