NLD youth group writes to SPDC over
Tabayin incident
DVB ( July 6, 2003 )
It is reported the NLD Youth members have written a letter
to the SPDC’s Chairman Sr Gen Than Shwe urging him to
make enquiries into the Dipeyin incident and take all necessary
actions as soon as possible. The letter was signed by 106
members and it was sent to the general on the first of July.
The letter contains three main demands: the immediate releases
of all people who are detained including the NLD leaders U
Tin Oo and Daung Aung San Suu Kyi, to re-open all the nation-wide
NLD offices and to arrest and try all those who perpetrated
the Dipeyin incident.
Moreover, the letter expresses the youths’ serious
concern for all the victims of the incident who were brutally
and inhumanely attacked by a group of thugs. The youths also
express their worries and concerns for the efforts to make
Burma democratic because of the arrests of the NLD leaders
and the closures of the NLD offices throughout the country.
They also urge the government to tell the people what really
happened at Dipeyin and to issue the precise list of the names
of the people who were killed, detained and still missing.
