The Norwegian
Burma Committee calls for the release of DASSK and postcard
campaign
The Norwegian Burma Committee (NBC) has written an article
which is printed in the Norwegian newspaper, Dagbladet, today
June 19th. The article focuses on the latest events and ends
the postcard campaign which was initiated last year.
The postcard
campaign was in support of DASSK and the women of Burma.
The campaign was in cooperation with the Norwegian government's
political parties' women organisations. More than 1300 signed
postcards have been collected and these will be sent to Burma
as an action of support from Norway to DASSK and women of
Burma.
The Norwegian Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik, has signed
the postcard.
In the article the NBC urges the Norwegian government to:
Implement concrete measures to secure the release of DASSK
Put pressure so that Burma is raised in the UN security council
Urge the SPDC to implement concrete measures to stop the systematic
use of rape as a weapon of war against ethnic minorities,
and that the responsible are punished
Contribute to the support and protection of Burmese women
victims of rape and other sexual abuses.
