| Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and team who
are rallying the supports of the people are now travelling to
townships in the southern Chin State. According to the NLD’s
spokesman, U Lwin, they have officially opened Matupi Township
NLD office, and they are resuming the journey to Kanpelet.
At Kyaukhtut and Mindat, two towns before
Matupi, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi delivered speeches to supporters
and well-wishers. At Kyaukhtut, over 5000 people attended
the rally. On the way from Mindat to Matupi, the car carrying
U Tin Oo skidded and overturned due to the dire condition
of the road.
When the DVB asked U Lwin about it, he
said that there is no phone connection with them and he is
unable to get exact news from them. He heard that one car
broke down and it had to be abandoned:
U Lwin : ‘I don’t know clearly
about it. The car broke down or something, I don’t know.
All I know is they had to travel on another car. The road
is slippery or something like that. They are unable to drive
it. They had to leave the car behind and U Tin Oo had to join
other people in another car, I was told.’
The same news is also reported by Khin
Maung Soe Minn from India with an interview with a local Chin
national as follows:
Khin Maung Soe Minn : U Tin Oo was inside
the red car that overturned this morning at about seven. A
Chin national who investigated the accident said:
A local Chin national : ‘After
leaving Kyaukhtut on the 10th, at a place thirty miles beyond
Mindat, to the direction of Matupi, the car U Tin Oo was in
overturned. No one was hurt but they are unable to retrieve
the car. Its passengers joined other people in three cars
and continued the journey to Matupi.’
Khin Maung Soe Minn : To confirm the
news, the DVB rang Matupi and Kyaukhtut but unable to do so
as there is no private phone line in the towns. Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi and team have to scale the 9000 feet high Mawpi Mountain
to get to Matupi. Only trucks carrying logs are said to be
able to travel on the 101 miles long Mindat – Matupi
road even during the dry season.
It is also reported that local authorities
distributed anti-Daw Aung San Suu Kyi pamphlets in Haka, Chin
State.
According to the spokesman U Lwin,
anti-Aung San Suu Kyi posters featuring obscene cartoons and
articles and the like were also found along the way to Matupi
and Gangaw. |
