An Unfortunate Death of A Rohingya In Naf River

Buthidaung, Feb.16: A Rohingya labor named Mir Ahmed (40) son of Lalu Mia of Yaung Chaung village under Buthidaung Township, Arakan State, died unfortunatelyt when their small country boat was capsized in the river Naf on 24th January 2004, said a trader from the town.

On the day of occurrence, a cargo boat carrying rice from Arakan was crossing the river Naf over to Bangladesh and about 200 laborers were awaiting at Teknaf to unload it. Due to low tide the cargo boat could not go ashore. Alternatively, the victim Mir Ahmed and 4 other accompanying laborers of the cargo boat started unloading it by carrying the rice in a small country boat. In one stage the boat was capsized and Mir Ahmed was drown and died unfortunately when the other 4 others could be rescued, he further said.

So far, no attention has yet been given to the matter by any quarter. On the other, the family members of the victim received nothing from both the traders and the owner of the boat, said a relative of the victim.
