Wild elephants in Northern Arakan kill at least 5
Rathe Daung, December 12: In Northern
Arakan wild elephants have been frenzy and killed 5 peoples including
women, reports our correspondence on 7 December.
On 22nd November Daw Moe Nyunt Pry (74) of Kabaing Chaung village,
on 23rd November Ma Nu Nu Khaing (22) of Pautaw Prang of Aung Bala
village tract and in the same day U Aung from Angu Moe village,
on 24th November Daw Put Ma (41) and Mey Loo (12) from Koondan Paik
Sai village have been killed by wild elephants. All villages are
under the Rathe Daung Township, 20 miles north of Sittwe, the capital
of Arakan state.
It is reported that they were attacked by the wild elephants when
they were sleeping in their watch-hut in paddy fields.
All villages are close to Mayu hills foot, has a link with Himalayas
Mountains of India. The climate and topography of the area is very
suitable for the elephants and has been a rendezvous of wild elephants,
local elderly people said.
Some experienced people comment that at present in Burma wild elephants
trapper teams have been rampant in using tranquilliser bullets and
number of poachers for tasks on increase that disturbing inhabitation
of elephants and compelled them to head towards human inhabitants.
This is the same spot from where two white elephants have been
captured last year. |
