SPDC National Convention "Caveat Emptor"

"Caveat Emptor” the Latin word for “Buyer Beware" is a term which explains to a buyer of goods or services that any promises made by the seller cannot be enforced. Therefore, it is the buyer's fault if the services or goods purchased are not what the seller promised.
The Committee for the Restoration of Democracy in Burma has repeatedly warned that the military junta will not honor its agreements or promises they make. We should never forget or overlook its almost 42 years record of broken promises and deceptive tactics to prolong the military dynasty indefinitely.

Forty years ago in 1963, a year after dismantling the 1948 Independence Constitution and elected government, the junta called for “Peace Talks” with the revolutionary forces. They raised hopes for internal peace; but ended in assassinating Thakhin Than Tun, and divided the Karen National Union, later resulting in the murder of Bo Lin Htin.
Again in 1974, after ruling the country without a constitution or law for 12 years, the junta initiated the National Convention with their own appointees, drafted a new constitution, held a referendum and elections, and ended with the BSPP/military victory which prolonged its rule for 14 more years.

Again in 1988, Ne Win suggested the multi party system, raised false hopes of “Democracy”; and when people asked for a change to multi party system, he answered with bullets resulting in the bloody 8888 massacre and abolishing of 1974 Constitution.
Again in May 1990, the junta held the general elections with General Saw Maung’s promise of returning power to the winning party, raising another false hope for “Democracy” and ending with the brutal crackdown of the NLD, the winning party. Thus again not fulfilling its election promise.

In 2000, twelve years after a lawless rule, the junta opened “the Talks” with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, rightful leader of the winning NLD party; again raising false hopes for a “National Reconciliation”. This finally ended in the “Tapayin massacre.”
With this history of deception, cunning, and total disregard for integrity, the CRDB reaffirms its unwavering support for 1990 elections, the NLD and the Fort Wayne Declaration. Our advice to all opportunistic supporter of SPDC National Convention "CAVEAT EMPTOR".
