New Marriage Law Brings New Suffering

Maung Daw, December 9: The people of northern townships of Arakan province are suffering from new problem for new marriage law announced by Nasaka border security force of Burma.

As this new law has created difficulties for the youths who seek to be coupled, so this brings great fortune for the Nasaka officers, said report.

According to new marriage law, it is said that anyone living under Nasaka jurisdiction areas wanting to marry should apply to the Nasaka border security area commander for the permit in advance.

As per new law, applications should attach two copies of passport size photographs and a certificate issued by chairman of village administration council.

It is reported that permission could be delay one month to two months long period of time. But this delay is depended on ability of paying bribe. The bigger the amount of bribe, the quicker the granting of permission.

To obtain such permission for marriage would-be couple may have to pay forty to fifty thousands of kyat to Nasaka area commander, is reported.

Not only that the applicant must pay handsome tips to the chairman of village council to issue of forwarding and his seal on the application.

A primary school teacher of Maung Daw said” for new marriage law though many citizens suffer much, most Nasaka Burmese officers are economically benefited.”

Studies on this new law it is revealed that the new law issued from the Nasaka Headquarters, Kyiganbran, Maung Daw Township is nowhere existed in Burma except over the Muslim populated area, the northern part of the Arakan province.
