International Human Rights Day, December 10, 2003
In commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights (UNDHR) as adopted by the UN General Assembly, Justice
for Human Rights in Burma (JHB) reaffirms its commitment to the
human rights norms as declared in the UNDHR; and pursues accountability
of injustices by the Burmese military junta such as the the recent
May 30, 2003, massacre.
Therefore, JHB reiterates the following objectives on this anniversary
of the global Human Rights Day:
to bring international pressure - judicial, political
and economic on the military junta for the widespread human rights
abuses.
to gain the release of all political prisoners, as
well as the resumption of political parties without restrictions
and the establishment of a freedom of the press.
to bring a heightened attention to the gravity of
the pervasive human rights abuses committed daily against the citizens
of Burma.
