INVITATION
International Human Rights Day
December 10

You are cordially invited to a luncheon in honor of the International Human Rights Day (55th Anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights), organized by the National Council of the Union of Burma (NCUB) and the National Coalition Government of the Uniuon of Burma (NCGUB) in coordination with International Campaign for Democracy in Burma (ICDB), on Wednesday, December 10 from 12:30p.m. to 2:00p.m. at the NCGUB Conference Room, 1319 F Street, # 303, N.W., Washington DC 20004.

Our motherland is under the ruthless military rule, systematically violating the basic human rights for more than 41 years, ruling against the will of its citizens. Thousands of innocent people were murdered, tortured, and raped by the military rulers, while thousands of Burmese refugees are stranded in neighboring countries, such as Thailand and India.

The regime's human rights record remained extremely poor, and it continued to commit numerous serious abuses. Citizens did not have the right to change their government. In ethnic minority areas, security forces continued to commit extrajudicial killings and rape, forcibly relocated persons, used forced labor, and conscripted child soldiers. Disappearances continued, and members of the security forces tortured, beat, and otherwise abused prisoners and detainees. Citizens were subjected to arbitrary arrest without appeal. Arrests and detention for _expression of dissenting political views occurred on numerous occasions. (U.S. Department of State, Country Human Rights Report 2002)
