Chinland Guardian , By Salai Za Ceu Lian

28th November, 2003

The eight -day long Conference of Chin National Front (CNF) for the third time since its formation in 1988, beginning from 5th to 12th of November 2003 at their Camp Victoria in the Indo-Burma border area, was successfully concluded. The total participants of 69 representatives in Conference were composed of leaders from its allies political parties such as Chin National League for Democracy Exile (CNLD/E), National League For Democracy (NLD- Chinland), Mara People's Party (MPP), Youth and Women groups from both inside and outside of Burma.

Amongst the decisions reached out from the conference's agendas, resolution that supports the emergence of tripartite dialogue is one of them, which they unanimously approved, is the best mechanism to solve political crisis of today's Burma. Furthermore, they agreed that tripartite dialogue would be held as their main political strategy. With both views of working for the emergence of tripartite dialogue and to respond any political development timely and collectively in future, they resolved to hold the Chin Seminar on Consensus building as a mean to raise one collective voice for the Chin peoples as a whole. This proposed and targeted Consensus building would be jointly convened and organized in consultation with CNLD/E, CNF, ZNC(Exile) and MPP (LA) in the near future .

In connection with the SPDC roadmap, the CNF rejected the proposed roadmap by self-appointed Prime Minister, Khin Ngunt on the ground of lack of the time frame, its ignorance of the legitimate political parties' roles of 1990 election winners and that of ethnic nationalities' role. Besides, they criticized that the SPDC's roadmap was only based on the principle No.104 of their previous printed points in national convention and believed that this roadmap would not also lead Burma to Democracy.

In the statement, the CNF demanded that if the SPDC is committed to bringing about national reconciliation and political changes in Burma, it was necessary that they must call Nation-wide ceasefire, allow all political parties to continue their political activities freely, and convene the National Convention that reflects the nature of tripartite dialogue to begin the Constitution process.

The Chinland Guardian was talking to Dr. Suikhar, newly elected joint secretary and foreign secretary of the party, on their prioritized new tasks put forth to implement in future and, he said, " we are now in the process of developing strategies to respond to the political development in today's movement effectively and collectively on time in concert with all the political parties and civil societies of Chin. Our aim also is to mobilize the collective force of the CHin nationals both inside and outside of the country in order to wholly make the ongoing movement to people's movement," he added.

While asking his comment on the freshly concluded conference, he said, " firstly, I am thankful that there are observers from our allies in the conference and this was unlike our previous conference. In addition, I am gratified and satisfied to have witnessed that there have been great concern for the CNF from both inside and outside. I do as well sincerely consider the planned activities to work together effectively for the whole Chin peoples in concert with all political parties of the Chin as a great development. One different point also is that for the CNF leading body, we elected new leaders based on tribes and areas which i believe would be the first occasion in revolution. At last, I would like to remind everyone the need to work seriously for our common goal and to mobilize our peoples' power as we have seen that the military regime is trying to drive onward according to their roadmap.
