Dear Mr. President,

1.On behalf of the Burmese student dissidents, who currently are residing in the US and carrying on our endeavors to restore freedom and democracy in Burma, we would like to request you to intervene the current crisis in Burma. We have always saluted your relentless efforts to free the trouble sports around the globe. The monumental achievements of the sustainable developments of many developing nations have fallen under your conventional wisdom and involvement. You truly are the ambassador of the world to become an oikumene one .

2.In the Nobel Peace Prize acceptance statement, we have noted your precious words: "My concept of human rights has grown to include not only the right to live in peace, but also to adequate health care, shelter, food, and to economic opportunity. I hope this award reflects a universal acceptance and even embrace of this broad-based concept of human rights." Apprehensively, our beloved country has been torn by the brutal regime - has created civil wars killing minorities including the Christians and Muslims followed by the economic down turns - that have forced the people to endure poverty and famine with contracting epidemic maladies for more than four decades.

3.As you already knew, our leader and your fellow Noble Peace Laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was arbitrarily arrested by the notorious regime in Burma on May 30 following violence attack by the regime and its thugs killing a hundred of innocent people including her senior members and the people who eye witnessed the tragic event. According to the US’s diplomats, the attack was premeditated, inhumane and brutal when the attackers used sharp stacks, stones and sharp knives in their vicious attacks to the non-violent activists who were told not to respond by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

4.Unluckily, Khin Nyunt the current leader of the regime’s labyrinthine road-map for democracy had craftily hoodwinked Association of South East Asian Nations ASEAN. After the APEC meeting in Thailand, ASEAN, China and many other countries are interested in participating of Thai Prime Minister Thaksin’s mendacious road-map for Burma that will please the regime remaining in power forever. The people’s will to restore freedom and democracy in Burma by overwhelmingly voting for National League for Democracy NLD led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in 1990 elections is ignored by the same Gen. Khin Nyunt’s regime that still refuses to transfer the power to the winners party NLD. Instead, Khin Nyunt’s seven steps road-map, which is designed to call for another election, somehow coax the international community including the UN and its special envoy Mr. Razali, also a close business partner of current Burma’s regime.

5.On the contrary, during the meeting between Mr. Razali and herself, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi demanded the formation of an enquiry commission and the releases of detained NLD leaders within a month. Unfortunately, Mr. Razali also had failed to report his superior Secretary General and to let the world know about her demand in stead of repeatedly applauding Khin Nyunt’s reification so called road map plan.

6.In the mean time, the poor people in Burma including NLD organizing committee members from the townships in Irrawaddy Division and other NLD members have signed the following petition and request that the United Nations Security Council UNSC seriously consider and urgently take action to remedy the situation and obtain;

(a) The immediate and unconditional releases of NLD leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners.

(b) The immediate reopening of all NLD offices that have been forcibly sealed and freedom to participate in political activities for all political parties.

(c) The implementation of unanimous UNGA resolutions declaring that the desire for democracy by the people has been reflected in the results of the 1990 elections.

(d) An independent enquiry commission to investigate the “May 30’s MASSACRE”.

7.No response is prompted by the UN and its Secretary General who on the contrary issued an obscure statement calling for the ASEAN and international community to focus the political reform of Burma in 2006, another three years that would allow the regime enough time to wipe out the whole nation in Burma if necessary for the regime in order to remain in power.

8.Fortunately, the US, its allies and Japan have stood firm on our side. The prime minister of Japan has been constantly calling for the release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by suspending the ODA assistance to the regime for its failure to comply. The United States also says it will maintain tough new economic sanctions on Burma and will consider additional penalties if the country's human rights record does not improve. The report says the immediate U.S. policy objective in Burma is to secure Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's release and to encourage a genuine dialogue on democratic political reform.

9.To be summed up, there is no immediate foreseeable future of the freedom for the people in Burma due to the lack of sympathy and cooperation especially of the geopolitical neighbors. Our hope and preys for democratic reform and releasing of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma require unless and otherwise the effective intervention by experienced and powerful forces like you and your fellow Nobel Peace Laureates. The united voice of the Noble Peace Laureates would absolutely draw the attention of United Nations and its leadership to get involve.

10.We are very confident that you and your fellow members will find the legal terms and regulations to make your case strong persuading the United Nations Security Council UNSC an immediate intervention in the continuous atrocities and oppressions in Burma by the regime with it dictatorial rule. At the UN, the unanimous consent to intervene Burma’s crisis by UNSC, we are very sure, would remain on your conventional wisdom and initiative.

11.In conclusions, before the more bloodsheds like in 1988 inevitably and imminently occur due to the regime’s continuous repressions, we would like to plead of you to take an altruistic intervention grouping the Noble Peace Laureates - in order to demand United Nations to measure an immediate and unconditional releases of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all the political prisoners, and to set up an international investigation commission for May 30’s MASSACRE and its responsible persons and organizations.

Sincerely Yours’

Shwe Sin Htun
