Today, Parliamentary Friends of Burma has been established by Members
of Victorian Parliament at the Victorian Parliament House in Melbourne,
Australia.

Resolution of the Victorian Parliamentary Friends of Burma
l. Urge the Burmese State Peace and Development Council (SPDC)
to immediately recognize the 1990 election result, and establish
multi-party democracy and to press for the release of Aung San Suu
Kyi, her chair U Tin Oo, student leader Min Ko Naing and other political
prisoners in Burma; and
2. Ask the Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, to use the bipartisan
policy of constructive engagement with SPDC to press for the implementation
of the 1990 election result, and the establishment of multi-party
democracy and to press for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi, her
chair U Tin Oo, student leader Min Ko Naing and other political
prisoners in Burma.
3. Ask the United Nations' Special Envoy, Razali Ismail to press
for the implementation of the 1990 election result, and the establishment
of multi-party democracy and to press for the release of Aung San
Suu Kyi, her chair U Tin Oo, student leader Min Ko Naing and other
political prisoners in Burma and to place greater emphasis on the
rights of women and children in Burma, in light of ongoing abuses
against them; and make strong representation to the UN to increase
humanitarian assistance to women and children in Burma and Thailand.
