SUBJECT: AN OPEN LETTER TO BO KHIN NYUNT

Your labyrinthine road-map successfully hoodwinks ASEAN. ASEAN, China and many other countries are interested in participating of Thaksin’s version of democratic reform that will please you. Your seven steps road-map somehow puzzles the dissents by international community including the UN and its special envoy, your business partner Mr. Razali.

On the contrary, our people are testing your enthusiasm restoring of democracy and your foreign ministers’ flat out lies to the world. Risking their liberty and lives at stake under the ruthless rule, the activists and oppositions have proven that no freedom of expression, no social justice, and no rule of law exist in Burma.

First of all, in the last week of September, 7 students were arrested because of distributing pamphlets which described the student union's statement against the regime's political road map. They all are currently held at a military interrogation center and are going to be charged with the existing laws under the Burmese military regime very soon.

At the ASEAN regional groping, no members of ASEAN including yourself had mentioned about the May 30’s MASSACRE and bringing the responsible persons or organizations into justice. On the contrary, during the meeting between Mr. Razali and herself, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi demanded the formation of an enquiry commission and the releases of detained NLD leaders within a month. Unfortunately, Mr. Razali also had failed to let the world know about her demand in stead of repeatedly applauding of your fake show so called road map plan.

With an aim to prove the foreign minister Win Aung’s statement at ASEAN meeting telling the world that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was free, about ninety NLD went to see her were blocked by the authorities, and were not allow to get into her house. They knew that they would face severe consequences and retaliations for doing so.

On one hand, the responsible organization for May 30’s MASSACRE named USDA, which is formed by a bunch of thugs and crooks under your auspices, is allowed to register as a political party legally if there is a chance for another election. On the other hand, the NLD offices were shut down for no reason since on the 31 May 2003. They still are officially registered offices of a legal party. NLD need to resume its duties in the offices. It also won a landslide victory in 1990 election. NLD needs
to have offices to implement its policies. Its appeal to the election commissions to reopen the offices was blatantly denied.Finally, the state sponsored May 30’s MASSACRE was covered up and undermined by your administration. The survivors and observers of that event were sent to the jails. Because of all this, NLD organizing committee members from the townships in Irrawaddy Division, other NLD members and citizens of the country have signed this petition and request that the United Nations Security Council seriously consider and urgently take
action to remedy the situation and obtain;

(a) The immediate and unconditional release of NLD leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners.

(b) The immediate reopening of all NLD offices that have been forcibly sealed and freedom to participate in political activities for all political parties.

(c) The implementation of unanimous UNGA resolutions declaring that the desire for democracy by the people has been reflected in the results of the 1990 elections.

(d) An independent enquiry commission to investigate the “May 30’s
MASSACRE”.

These are all undeniable facts we have to let the people in Burma and the international organizations and governments know that the aggressive and repressive regime is still trying to undermine the peoples’ will and their loves for freedom and democracy in Burma by creating fear among them. With respect to the sacrifices of the activists, political leaders and oppositions in Burma, we will keep on beating the drum of peoples’ victory calling for the participations of the people in Burma, the cooperation of the neighboring countries and the interventions of the UN and other core nations.
